My name is Steve Hodgson. I am a qualified counsellor offering therapy and individual (one-to-one) counselling. Sessions are confidential and take place in a calm, quiet and safe environment on Hayling Island. Here you can explore any issues that you feel you wish to – these may include:

  • stress
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • bereavement
  • relationships
  • sexuality
  • feelings of low self-worth/self-esteem
  • finding personal meaning

You might also feel that your issues are unclear and not be able to label them; working together, we could make situation clearer.

I feel that our problems and solutions lie within ourselves and that I can act as a practical aid in helping you to find these and learn to manage them. Counselling can be tailored to meet your individual needs; this should help you get the most from our sessions together.

About counselling...

In times of need sometimes friends and family can help, but there are times when professional support is beneficial. People often find that it is good to talk to someone in confidence, someone who is not already involved in the situation. This can be of great value when everything seems to be so overwhelming.

Counselling can offer you the opportunity and time to explore your issues, situations and feelings. In beginning to understand yourself, you can hopefully start the process of understanding others more effectively. Your choices will become more informed and right for you and you will be able to move forward in your life.

Counselling can sometimes result in change, but equally can result in acceptance or understanding of what cannot be changed.

Qualifications...

I hold a diploma in Humanistic Counselling, having studied at Chichester University. I am presently extending my formal qualifications to degree in the same discipline.

Experience

My main work involves counselling adults and, alongside this, specific counselling for teenagers and older people. I work with individuals only, and do not offer couples counselling. I have experience with a number of counselling agencies, and hold current CRB checks.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by and uphold their ethical framework for good practice. http://www.bacp.co.uk/

I have regular supervision and training as part of my continual professional development.

How many sessions will you need?

As many, or as few, as you feel are necessary. Some people come for one or two visits and others attend over a period of months. Weekly counselling is desirable, but realistically some clients are unable to commit to this for a variety of reasons and I will see clients on a fortnightly or monthly basis.

How long is each session?

50 minutes, either at the same time each week or, if required, at varied times, subject to availability. I offer daytime, evening and weekend appointments.

Where does counselling take place?

I work from home in a quiet private house in south Hayling. I also offer a free 15 minute first meeting to see if we are happy to engage with each other.

How much does it cost?

£30 per session. Payment can be made either by cash or cheque.
